1963 - 1964 - TV Excelsior

Nos anos pré-Ditadura Militar o Brasil era diferente. Havia democracia! Não só democracia parlamentar, mas democracia social e comercial. Não havia uma emissora 'oficial', como a Globo se tornaria depois do putsch. Havia chances de emissoras competirem entre si. TV Tupi por ser a mais antiga, tinha uma certa precendência entre elas, mas não significando 1o. lugar 'eterno'. A TV Record competia com a Tupi se alternando no 1o. lugar. Isso até aparecer a TV Excelsior no dia 9 Julho 1960. Em menos de 2 anos de existência, a Excelsior conseguiu a façanha de revolucionar o meio-de-campo e em 1963 já era a 1a. emissora do Brasil, Canal 9 em São Paulo e Canal 2 no Rio de Janeiro, usando uma concessão dada à TV Mayrink Veiga que nunca se concretizara.

1964 foi o ano que a TV Excelsior consolidou sua liderança no mercado de TV brasileiro. Foi o ano que a tele-novela 'A moça que veio de longe', com Rosamaria Murtinho e Helio Souto conseguiu os mais altos índices de audiência possíveis, fazendo com que se instalasse a tele-novela como o 'prato principal' da TV brasileira. Para quem nasceu nos últimos 40 anos parece mentira, mas a tele-novela como Rainha da programação de TV foi iniciada em 1964, justamente com o sucesso estrondoso desse folhetim.

Silvia Paula Jentsch's scrap-book kept on bulging through the years. Silvia had an eclectic, wide-ranging, all-embracing personality. She was an artist in her own right having made painting on china (porcelain) her own business. She was a busy bee but somehow she found time to keep on adding lyrics and images to her scrap-books. 

Silvia was initially a rock'n'roll fan having bought Elvis Presley's and Brenda Lee's albums when she was in her early teens. Listening to the radio she found out she was fond of Velha Guarda too - the Brazilian 1930s and 1940s pop music - that young people usually shunned from. Silvia was different. She could be dancing to a rock tune and then turn to an old waltz at the drop of a hat. 

When the Italian pop music invaded Brazil in late 1963, Silvia became an avid fan. Then in late-1964 and 1965, Brazilian rock aka Jovem Guarda became very popular and Silvia also made room for this new trend. Not only Wanderlea and Roberto Carlos, but Erasmo Carlos, Jerry Adriani.

1962-1963-1964 Scrap book

Silvia's scrap books were legendary. She collected lyrics clippings from magazines & newspapers which she pasted over note-books that kept getting bulkier by the week until she filled them up after a period that lasted close to a year. Then Silvia started another one.

The one shown here was mainly done circa 1963-1964, but with residuals from 1962 too.
